An extensive two-month journey around Australia is being halted days after the death of an elderly woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the personnel became aware the woman was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, alongside police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that guests and staff on the vessel were informed that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" preventing any further travelers from entering the liner.
